Globacom PRO embezzles N700,000 meant for Journalists

A former Edo State Correspondent with the Nigerian Tribune and the present Public Relations Officer with Globacom in Edo State, Mr. Ben Suyi has been fingered by two officials of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC for allegedly embezzling N700,000.00 meant for journalists at the award ceremony of Oba of Benin Best Driver Competition in Benin, Fresh Angle can report.

Fresh Angle reliably gathered that when the FRSC were shopping for sponsors for the Oba of Benin Driver Award competition, the Management of Globacom applied to be the sole sponsor and even begged the Edo Sector Command of the FRSC not to include any other sponsors as they would be able to organize and give wide publicity to the event.

Our Benin City Correspondent reports that based on the agreement, Globacom approved N1.2million to be given to the FRSC. But the directive from the headquarters was not kept as it was alleged that one of the representatives of Globacom whose name was not disclosed as at press time and the company’s PRO in Benin, Mr. Osuyi Ben decided to give only five hundred thousand naira to the FRSC, assuring them that they are going to use the remaining seven hundred thousand for effective publicity.

Our Benin City Correspondent reports that some media organizations like NTA, AIT, ITV, EBS, Raypower, FRCN, Nigerian Observer and some print media in the ceremony beseeched the Globacom officials who in-turn said the management of Globacom only provided souvenirs (cap and T-shit) for journalists, a statement which sparked off uproar prompting the media men present to demand for their honorarium after spending more than five hours during the competition.

Report says the media practitioners went ahead to prevent the FRSC PRO, Deputy Sector Commander and other officials from leaving the venue of the ceremony.

Efforts to ascertain if the alleged N700,000.00 was actually held by Globacom representative was unsuccessful as they were reluctant to give any explanation as regard honorarium for media representatives covering the award.

Fresh Angle can however report that the best driver award went to a private driver, Mr. Blessing Osamuyi who got N50,000.00, while the first runner-up was Mr. Elvis Aduware from the University of Benin, UNIBEN who got a cash of N30,000.00 and N20,000.00 was given to one Imariaro Friday of AU Motors for coming out third.
