The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comrade Isaac Agbateyiniro, has called on local and foreign investors to take advantage of the safe and peaceful environment in Warri to establish and grow their businesses.

Agbateyiniro made the call while reopening Gemstone Superstores along Airport Road, Warri, Delta State, describing the development as a clear signal that Warri remains conducive for investment.

“This place occupies a special economic niche in Warri and its environs,” the chairman said. “When what happened, happened and Gemstone suffered some setbacks, I was one of the major losers. Today, I am proud to say that the Chairman of Warri South LG Economic Committee, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Warri South Council Property and Investment Development Board, has been able to bring back Gemstone.”

He attributed the successful reopening of the business to the enabling environment created by the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

“This could not have happened if our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, had not created the enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Delta State,” Agbateyiniro said. “This is an indication that, contrary to the erroneous impression outside, Warri is peaceful. There is no way investors would bring their businesses to an environment that is not peaceful.”

The chairman commended the investor for choosing Warri despite having other options.

“I want to thank the investor. He had everything it takes to take this business elsewhere, but he chose here because he is a Warri boy,” he said. “I am using this opportunity to call on all investors and Warri people to seize this advantage.”

Earlier, the investor and Chairman of the Warri South LG Economic Committee, who also serves as Chairman of the Warri South Council Property and Investment Development Board, Mr. Tsewo Edema, Esq., disclosed that the reopening of the store had already created employment for 15 persons.

He said the reopening of Gemstone Superstores was part of efforts to complement the council’s determination to make Warri a hub for investments.

Edema praised Agbateyiniro for aligning with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, citing projects such as the Atlantic City being developed by the council as evidence of the administration’s commitment to economic growth.

He added that more jobs would be created as the store begins full operations.

Present at the event were the Vice Chairman of the council, the Secretary, Emma Nunu, Supervisor, Mrs Misan Eke and Councillors of Warri South LGA.
