The Delta State Chapter of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN, has condemned the kidnap of its member, Board of Trustee (BOT) at the National level, Barr. (Mrs.) Kate Chinwe Onianwa.
In a release signed by the Chairman, Comrade Felida Essi and Secretary, Prince Charles Umejei, the association described the kidnap of Mrs. Kate Onianwa which occurred at about 6:00pm on October 8 in front of her house at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area as unfortunate.
The ACNPN Chairman appealed to members of the public to assist the law enforcement agents with useful information that could lead to the release of Mrs. Onianwa. She recounts “by our own calculation, Mrs. Onianwa has spent over two weeks in the hands of her abductors”.
It was gathered that the kidnappers, who came in a private car, forced Kate Onianwa into the car at gun point and zoomed off to unknown destination.
The association noted that the image of the country has been damaged by the unholy act of the kidnapers. She observed that cases of kidnap are on the increase in the state, stressing that if something urgent is not done, the situation may become difficult to manage.
A family source who spoke with Fresh Angle on condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers have been contacting them, demanding N10 million before she would be released.
The association has called on Delta State Police Command and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to put necessary machineries in place to see that Kate Onianwa is released and the abductors brought to book.
Police sources at Asaba told Our Correspondent that the command is working seriously to ensure that Mrs. Onianwa regains freedom as soon as possible.
