Board of Trustees voids NAIS election conducted January 18

The Board of Trustees of the National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS, has voided the National Executive election of NAIS conducted Sunday January 18, 2026, ordering the conduct of a fresh congress February 8.

The National Adviser/Chairman, Board of Trustees, NAIS, Sir Amorighoye Sunny Mene and Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Comr. Oritseneye Frederick I, in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, Sunday February 1, averred that Chairman of the Electoral Commission in the election held January 18, is not a valid Student, making him ineligible to lead or conduct elections for the National Association of Itsekiri Students.

The Board, explained that its decision, was consequent upon numerous petitions received regarding conduct of the elections.

Recall that a 500 Level Law student of Novena University, Ogume, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, Comrade Eyitemi Jemide, emerged President of National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS in the election, held January 18.

The election originally billed for Saturday January 17, was shifted to Sunday January 18, following heated arguments that trailed the initial disqualification of two presidential aspirants; Eseyuwa Ofeoritse Gift and Tom Debi.

Below is full text of the statement released Sunday February 1 by the NAIS Board of Trustees:

“The National Adviser/ Board of Trustees of the National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) received numerous petitions on the conduct of the NAIS elections held on the 18th January 2026. After due consideration of all the issues raised in the petitions.

“The following irregularities and observations were noted;

1. That the Chairman of the Electoral commission is not a valid Student, making him ineligible to lead or conduct elections for the National Association of Itsekiri Students. Being not qualified ab initio, you can not put anything on nothing. Therefore, the elections are illegal null and void.

2. That Electoral commission did not comply with the provisions of NAIS constitution 2018 (as amended), particularly as stipulated in Article 8, Section 19, subsections 1 and 11 of the NAIS Constitution.

3. That the NAIS elections are strictly delegates-based elections, therefore allowing non - delegates to vote violates the provisions of the constitution, particularly Article 8, Section 21, subsection III, which requires that two students are presented from all registered chapters for accreditation, and these delegates are the only qualified voters during the election.

4. That the National Adviser/ Board of Trustees frown at the interference by other youth organisations in Iwere land. It must be noted that NAIS activities is purely a tertiary students’ affairs. Therefore, undue interference is perceived as meddlesome interlopers , which is totally unacceptable. The organisation is duly incorporated and guided by its constitution and statutes

5. That the deployment of violence and hooliganism is totally condemnable. That this will no longer be tolerated in all NAIS activities.

6. That we welcome observers without interference and partnership with all men and women of good will in the promotion of their motto, aims and objectives.

“After due consideration of all the issues raised in the petitions and observations above, it was resolved that;

I. The NAIS Elections conducted on the 18th of January, 2026 is hereby cancelled. The outcome of the Elections is hereby declared null and void for non compliance with the constitution and extant regulations.

II. A fresh Congress is hereby called for the 8th of February, 2026 , at 1pm prompt at the NAIS National Secretariate, Shell Contractor Road, Warri, To constitute a new Electoral commission with credible and capable hands to conduct fresh Elections.
