The monthly enlightenment campaign designed by the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment in the Directorate of Social Services and powered by DESOPADEC to reach out and educate students as well as the mass public in Delta State on the erroneous belief and assumption that "School is Scam" and the dangers of drug abuse and cultism, was taken to lwere College, Koko in Warri North Local Government Area on Thursday March 26.
Giving her address, Mrs. Uwelem Francisca, Vice Principal of Iwere College who stood in for the Principal of lwere College, appreciated the DESOPADEC Board Chairman, Chief John Nani as well as the Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor for their bold initiative towards the sensitization campaign geared at disabusing the consciousness of students towards the false and sad belief that school is scam, while reiterating the importance of school in the educational development and mental growth of the students
Mrs. Oke Etume, a Divisional Head in the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment who represented the Head of the Department, Mrs. Chinenye Ezonfade appreciated the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his wonderful support for the enlightenment initiative and admonished the students to disabuse their minds from thinking that school and proper education is scam, reiterating that school and proper education is light.
The event which was spiced up with a round of debate by students from Iwere College and Christ the Saviour International School, Koko on the topic "School ls Scam" saw two female students of lwere College speaking eloquently in support of the fact that School and proper education cannot be scam and enumerated several convincing reasons that established the importance and advantages of going to school as well as getting properly educated.
Best Oritsematosan, one of the two female students from Christ the Saviour International School also spoke in support of the fact that school and proper education cannot be scam while Grace Agbeyigbe maintained the fact that though school is not scam, the conduct of leaders who are elected and appointed to positions of authority to run the economy of our country have left many questions unanswered, emphasizing that their conduct is one of the reasons why students, youths and the people in general see school and education as scam.
While addressing the students, Ms. Honeywell Eburajolo, a staff of the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment dwelt on the ridiculous, erroneous and sad belief that education is scam, giving convincing reasons why school and proper education cannot be scam. She thus, described school as a structured environment where the consciousness of students is built to make them become responsible persons who will contribute to the development of their immediate environment, State and nation and highlighted the three types of education as Formal education, informal education and non- formal education.
In her lecture, Ms Elizabeth Odisu, also a staff of the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment, spoke lucidly on the dangers of drug abuse and cultism and highlighted the negative effects of drug abuse and dangers of cultism while admonishing the students to abstain from wrong association that can lead them into drug and substance abuse and cultism.
The highlight of the sensitization campaign was the presentation of gift items to the four students who participated in the debate.

Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta and driven by the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment was attended by students from Christian World College Koko; Christ the Saviour International School; Beach Secondary Schoo, Koko; St. Michael College, Koko and Students from Iwere College, Koko.
