Mentorship, Confidence Key as Women in Energy Launch Capacity-Building Webinar

A new drive to amplify women’s voices and foster knowledge-sharing in the oil and gas sector has taken off in Delta State, with industry leaders urging female professionals to speak up and support one another.

The Delta State Chapter of Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) hosted its inaugural ‘Women Powering Women in Energy (WPWE) 1.0’ webinar at the weekend, focusing on mentorship, confidence, and closing the diversity gap.

Delivering the welcome address, the State Chapter Director, Dr. Sarah Nwinee, said the initiative reflects a deliberate effort to create platforms that amplify the experiences and contributions of women in Nigeria’s energy space. “I commend the women in energy in Nigeria and globally; the women are doing exceptionally well. The platforms are building, awareness is being created and the industry is consciously creating opportunities for women to thrive,” she noted.

The National President of WEOG, Mrs. Tolu Longe, framed the series as a legacy project. She emphasised the importance of sharing hard-won insights with the next generation, noting that mentorship is key to closing both the diversity and energy poverty gaps in the industry.

A major highlight of the event was an address by Engr. Chichi Emenike, Acting Managing Director and Gas Asset Manager of Neconde Energy Limited. She acknowledged the difficulty of earning a place at the table but insisted that women must persist. “If we don't lend our voices, who do we hand the baton to?” she asked.

Participants were encouraged to learn from experienced female leaders, challenge gender stereotypes, and continuously upskill. The webinar, moderated by Benedicta Anthony of Multiversal Energy Petroleum Resources, ended with a call to build supportive networks that ensure no woman walks her career journey alone.
