Skyboo Express and Logistics has launched a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled smart card aimed at improving operational efficiency for e-commerce logistics in Nigeria, as companies in the sector continue to explore digital solutions to address last-mile delivery challenges.
The company said the NFC Smart Card system allows merchants and logistics partners to manage order bookings, track deliveries in real time, and receive automated updates through a unified platform. The solution also includes a digital rewards feature designed to support customer engagement and partner incentives.
According to Skyboo Express, the system leverages NFC technology to enable tap-based interactions between dispatch riders and registered devices, reducing reliance on manual verification processes that often contribute to delivery delays and disputes.
E-commerce vendors using the platform can initiate delivery requests, monitor shipment progress, and confirm successful deliveries, the company added.
The introduction of hardware-enabled logistics tools reflects a growing shift toward digitisation within Nigeria’s supply chain ecosystem. Industry analysts say inefficiencies in last-mile delivery—ranging from failed deliveries to limited tracking transparency—remain a key constraint for the country’s expanding e-commerce sector.
“Solutions that combine real-time tracking with authentication tools could help improve accountability across the delivery chain,” a Lagos-based logistics analyst told our correspondent.
Skyboo’s smart card also features a built-in rewards system, branded as “Skyboo Gift Card,” which allows users to redeem incentives linked to delivery performance, customer loyalty, and promotional campaigns.
While similar digital tracking platforms exist, the integration of NFC-based authentication into dispatch operations is still emerging within Nigeria’s logistics space. Analysts note that such innovations, if widely adopted, could reduce delivery disputes and improve trust between merchants, riders, and end customers.
Skyboo Express and Logistics, headquartered in Lokoja, Kogi State, said the rollout of the NFC Smart Card will begin with select partner merchants before expanding across its network.
The development underscores the increasing role of smart technologies in shaping logistics and e-commerce operations in emerging markets, particularly as businesses seek to enhance reliability and customer experience in last-mile delivery.
