2027: Chants of 'we want direct primary' rent the air, as Opuoru declares DTHA return bid

The political atmosphere in Warri, Delta State, was electrified Wednesday May 6, as prominent chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC and community leaders, chanted " we want direct primary" "no direct primary, no election" and " no to consensus" as former member of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, declared intention to recontest for the Warri South Constituency II seat in the 2027 polls.

 

 

The mammoth gathering of APC faithful, community leaders, women, youths, Arewa Community in Warri, Yoruba Community in Warri and different political pressure groups held at Otor - Orore in Okere - Urhobo, Warri.

Speaker after speaker, including Kingsley Egbe, Jerry Atiene, former PDP Chairman in Warri, cum APC leader , Mr. Amah Agbajoh, Chief Ovoke Omagbemi, Chief Julius Keston Agbosa, Prof. ( Chief) Israel Abido, Rev. David Otofia, Chief Dickson Obirenfoju ( AKA Chief Agbakara) Chief Julius Obelikpeya, Chief Okolobe and immediate past Chairman of APC in Warri South Local Government, Mr. Mario Owumi, stressed the need for the APC to adopt direct mode of primary for conduct of its primary, particularly in Warri South Constituency II.

Foremost leader of Warri Urhobos in APC, Prof. Israel Abido, while addressing the crowd, said " we nor want beni - beni, we want straight forward. Opuoru is a man with good mind."

The immediate past Chairman of APC in Warri South Local Government, Mario Owumi, presented a sachet of salt to Hon. Opuoru, saying he took back the salt which he gave to Chief Benson Obire, prior to the 2023 general elections and gave it to Opuoru, symbolising his blessing for Hon. Opuoru 's success at the party primary and general election.

Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, who formally declared his intention to recontest the Warri South Constituency II seat in the forthcoming elections, promised to do more than he did in his first term as member of Delta State House of Assembly.

Whilst assuring women and Constituents of Warri South Constituency II of more empowerment, if given fresh mandate, the House of Assembly hopeful, asserted : " May 21 is the primary, we won answer our papa name.

"I have very beautiful and intelligent people around me. We go meet for the field. I want to thank leaders of the party in Warri South Constituencies I and II, we will restore our stolen mandate and do better than we did in the first term."
