Court slams VDM N30.5million damages in defamation suit instituted by Atsepoyi


The High Court of Justice, Delta State of Nigeria, In the Effurun Judicial Division, has reportedly slammed Self-acclaimed Online Police, Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (also known as 'Verydarkblackman) thirty million, five hundred thousand naira (N30,500,000.00) damages, in defamation suit instituted by Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjueyi Atsepoyi, wife of Mr. Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, A.K.A. Mr. Jollof.

 

Fresh Angle International, understands that the judgement, which was delivered Friday May 8, outlined the hefty fines as follows; N20m general damages, N10m aggravated damages and N500,000.00 for cost of litigation.

 

The court, also ordered VDM, to publish retraction and apology with two national dailies within 14 days.

 

Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjueyi Atsepoyi, had slammed Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (also known as 'Verydarkblackman) with a Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000.00) defamatory suit.

 

Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Atsepoyi, prayed the Court to direct ‘Verydarkblackman’ to publish an apology in two National Dallies and all his social media handles.

 

The Claimant in suit no: Ehc/203/2024, alleged that ‘Verydarkblackman’ published a defamatory content against her and same was streamed, watched and digested by members of the public; amongst whom are her customers, some of whom are resident in Effurun, a place within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Justice, Delta State of Nigeria, In the Effurun Judicial Division.

 

This Flagship Niger Delta Online Newspaper, had reported Wednesday July 2, 2025, that Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (also known as 'Verydarkblackman)  told The High Court of Justice, Delta State of Nigeria, In The Effurun Judicial Division, that he doesn’t know Delta State based Event Planner and former banker, Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjueyi Atsepoyi.

 

Verydarkblackman, allegedly denied knowledge of Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjueyi Atsepoyi, during a virtual hearing of the court held Tuesday July 1, 2025.

 

Witnesses claimed that when asked by the Court if he knows Mrs. Atsepoyi, Verydarkblackman, allegedly responded, I don’t know her.”

 

On the accusation of Infidelity with a Yahoo Boy in a Hotel Room and allegation that Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjueyi Atsepoyi slept with Politicians to Secure Appointments for Mr. Jollof, VDM purportedly responded, “I can’t remember.”

 

He was also quoted to have denied past video claims about Mrs. Atsepoyi’s alleged infidelity and repudiated ever saying “I am gay.”  

 

According to the sources, Verydarkblackmanconfirmed receiving the letter (of the court case) but claimed: “I didn’t check the contents, because my address was posted online, and I felt threatened.”

Mrs. Atsepoyi, through her Counsel, John Smart Esq. of Cross Attorneys, averred in her Writ of Summons: “Sometime on the 15th, 16th and in the early hours of 19th September, 2024, the Defendant used his social media verified Instagram handle of “verydarkblackman" to continually make and publish defamatory publications in form of an online video about and against the Claimant.

 

In the said publications, the Defendant stated that the Claimant committed adultery against her husband with a ‘yahoo boy’ he also stated that the Claimant slept with ‘several politicians’ to give her husband appointment as an SSA with the Delta State Government and that one of her children is not for her husband, suggesting that the husband conducts a DNA paternity test. He said vide the same medium that he has witnesses to these claims and he is ready for any action that his publication may occasion.
