Police inaugurates violent crime response unit to tackle insecurity


The Nigerian Police force has officially launched and inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU to tackle growing insecurity in Kogi State.
 
Addressing the officers in Lokoja, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi explained that the VCRU is a specialized tactical response formation mandated to respond swiftly to violent incidents, conduct intelligence-led operations, strengthen surveillance and prevention, support ongoing operations in high-risk areas, and enhance inter-agency collaboration for effective security management across Kogi State.
 
His words"The security environment in recent times has continued to present evolving and complex challenges, particularly armed banditry, kidnapping, highway attacks, and other violent crimes. These threats require a responsive, intelligence-driven, and coordinated operational structure capable of swift intervention.
 
"It is in response to this operational necessity that the Violent Crime Response Unit has been established.
 
 "It core objectives include improving response time, disrupting criminal networks, strengthening public confidence in law enforcement, and ensuring a safer environment for residents and visitors"
 
Kakanrofi added that the officers and men selected for this Unit have undergone thorough screening, vetting, and professional assessment covering discipline, operational history, integrity, and physical readiness.
 
" Only personnel who met strict professional standards were selected. For ease of identification and operational effectiveness, members of the Unit shall operate in designated VCRU tactical uniforms comprising black combat attire, black berets, black boots, and approved insignia, reflecting discipline, professionalism, and readiness.
 
"Let me state clearly that this Unit is operational in nature, established to deliver results, deny criminals freedom of action, and strengthen public confidence in the security architecture.
 
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that tThe Commissioner of Police charged the officers  to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating discipline, courage, integrity, and professionalism. 
 
"The use of force must remain lawful, proportionate, and guided strictly by established rules of engagement and extant laws" he warned. 
 
He acknowledged  the visionary leadership and operational directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan  whose reform-driven policing framework provided the basis for the establishment of this specialized tactical unit across Commands of the Federation. 
 
"His directive emphasizes proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and rapid response to violent crime in strengthening internal security.
 
He emphasized that effective synergy with sister security agencies remains central to modern policing urging stakeholders and members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, as security is a collective responsibility.
 
In his address, the Kogi State Security Adviser Commander Jerry Omodara Rtd while calling on synergy among security agencies in tackling crimes and criminalities vowed that the government will never negotiate with terrorists or criminals elements in the Country.
 
"This remains the stand of the Kogi State Government. The days of any bandits and terrorists are numbered in this place. There will be no hiding place for criminals as we are determined to flush them out of Kogi State" Omodara warned. 
 
Kogi Deputy Governor who was represented by his Deputy Comrade Joel Salifu Ojo reiterates the state government commitment in protecting lives and properties across the state.
 
He commended the Commissioner of Police for the success recorded in the state assuring of his continuous support to ensure a Crime free Kogi State.
