Don't shortchange us, Obidient Movement Appeals to NDC Leadership over Delta Primaries

The leadership of Obidient Movement in Delta State, has appealed to the National leadership of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC not to shortchange their members, regarding outcome of the just concluded NDC primaries held in the State.

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that the Delta State Chapter Coordinator of Obidient Movement, Hon. Favour Emerure, made the appeal in a statement released Friday June 5.

According to him, the group observed with profound concern the emerging reports from the recently concluded Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries across Delta State.

Whilst acknowledging that it's the party's internal processes, Hon. Emerure, said they were compelled to make their concern public, because the development tends to undermine the foundation of the Obidients' collective struggle for a New Nigeria.

He noted that it was imperative to recall the overwhelming success of the former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, in Delta State, during the 2023 elections, saying it was not a product of traditional political structures, but the direct result of the organic, volunteer-driven efforts of the Obidient Movement.

The Delta State Obidient Movement Coordinator, revealed that their members, through immense personal sacrifice and commitment, built a formidable support base that delivered a decisive victory, demonstrating the true power of the people.

The statement, reads: "We respectfully remind the NDC leadership, both at the state and national levels, that the enduring strength and electoral viability of our movement are inextricably linked to the morale and continued engagement of this dedicated base. To sideline these committed individuals, particularly those who have aspired to represent their constituencies in the House of Assembly, risks creating deep-seated demoralization. Such actions could inadvertently convey a message that loyalty, sacrifice, and grassroots activism are undervalued in favor of political expediency or transactional arrangements.

"The Obidient Movement is founded on principles of character, competence, and a genuine commitment to systemic change. Our collective vision for a New Nigeria demands that our political processes reflect fairness, transparency, and respect for those who have consistently demonstrated these values. We urge the NDC leadership to critically re-evaluate the outcomes of these primaries.

"We call for: "A thorough review of all primary election results in Delta State, with particular attention to cases where long-standing Obidient members appear to have been unfairly disadvantaged.

"Prioritization of candidates who embody the values and aspirations of the Obidient Movement, and who have a proven track record of grassroots engagement and loyalty.

"Open and transparent dialogue with the leadership of the Obidient Movement in Delta State to address these concerns and ensure that the integrity of our collective efforts is preserved.

"We believe that a united front, built on mutual respect and recognition of contributions, is paramount for achieving our shared objective in 2027. We must not allow internal processes to inadvertently weaken the very movement poised to deliver genuine change to Nigeria".
