Tension heightens in Warri, as Tompolo orders blockade of Chevron facility, Itsekiri youths block Warri Port access in response

There's growing tension in Warri Federal Constituency, following the blockade of Chevron Nigeria Limited  Abiteye field and flow station in Warri South - West Local Government Area, by protesting Ijaw women, allegedly acting on the orders of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo ala Tompolo.

The women, took over the company's facility in Abiteye in the early hours of Monday, June 8,  reportedly stopping operations of the oil and gas major, even as reports were rife that workers in Chevron's EGTL, who were supposed to undergo crew change today, were prevented from going out by the company, as a result of threats from Tompolo 's men.

Meanwhile, some Itsekiri youths, have blocked entrance to Delta Ports, Warri, in response to the unfolding ugly development in the riverine areas of Warri South - West Local Government Area.

There were also reports that some angry Itsekiri youths, have in response, stopped operations at the Tank Farm of Chevron Nigeria Limited in Ugborodo, with the possibility of anger spreading to the facilities of another oil and gas major in Ugborodo, Warri South - West Local Government Area.

The rising tension, is due to the controversy regarding the proposed delineation of units, wards and constituencies in Warri Federal Constituency, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

As at Saturday night, there were credible pieces of information that Ijaws living in Itsekiri communities of Orere and Bobi, vacated the communities, purportedly on the advice of their Gbaramatu Ijaw leaders.
