Okowa Pays Condolence Visit to Family of Late Chief Otumara in Warri

Former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara in Warri, describing his death as a profound loss to Delta State and the end of an era in public service and political leadership.

Dr. Okowa expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the respected statesman, whom he described as a dependable friend, trusted ally, former colleague, and inspirational leader whose life was marked by humility, calmness, and unwavering commitment to the progress of his people.

He noted that Chief Otumara made enduring contributions to governance and grassroots development across Delta State, particularly in Warri and its environs.

The late Otumara served three terms as Chairman of the Warri South Local Government Council and also held various positions as Commissioner for Special Duties, Housing, and Health in Delta State. He further served as two-time Chairman of the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Commission, where he played a significant role in advancing infrastructural development in the area.

He also served as Director-General of Dr. Okowa’s 2015 governorship campaign, contributing significantly to the political process that led to Okowa’s emergence as governor.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Okowa paid tribute to the late elder statesman, recalling their personal and political relationship and describing him as a calm, humane, and loyal friend.

In his condolence message, he said:

“We lost a great statesman, a great politician and community leader. Dr. Joseph was a good friend, ever calm and humane. Chief Dr. Otumara played a great role in my race to the Government House, Asaba as Governor. Thanks for all you did, Joseph. May your gentle soul rest in peace — Amen. Adieu our brother.”

On arrival, Dr. Okowa was received by Pa. Erebo Ebiyon, Head of the Ebisanine Family, alongside leaders of the Warri South Political Family, where the deceased was widely regarded as a key leader and mentor.

He later met with the widow, Mrs. Tina Otumara, whom he consoled and prayed with, urging the family to find strength in the legacy of service and leadership left behind by the deceased.

Family members, political associates, community leaders, and sympathisers were present during the visit, paying tribute to the late Otumara as a bridge-builder and influential figure in Delta State politics.

Dr. Okowa prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and urged the family to take solace in his enduring legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to public good.
