Okere Daughters, Wives Association stimulates ambience of peace, unity ahead 529th Awankere Festival

Ahead of the 529th Awankere (Okiroro) Festival, otherwise called Okere Juju, members of the Okere Daughters and Wives Association on Sunday June 28, stimulated the ambience of peace and unity, as they organized a colourful socio-cultural gathering at the Esisi Roundabout in Okere Community, Warri, Delta State.

The event tagged ‘Pre Awankere Picnic 2026’ held exactly 10days to the commencement of arguably the oldest and most vibrant cultural celebration in the Warri Urban.

Fresh Angle International, understands that the 529th Awankere Festival begins Tuesday July 7, with the second, third, fourth and fifth market days’ cultural fiesta coming up July 15, July 23, July 31 and August 8, respectively.

President of Okere Daughters and Wives Association, Mrs. Rita Atete Owen Kwashi, who spoke to Our Co-Publisher/Managing Editor, during the get-together Sunday June 28, explained that the gathering was to foster peace and unity amongst members of the association and the larger Okere Community.

Secretary of the association, Mrs. Rejoice Ekun, stated that a major purpose of the event, was to bring back the days of old, where Okere indigenes live together in peace and love.

Other exco members of Okere Daughters and Wives Association, are; Miss Temi Onuwaje; Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Temile Temi Solomon; Public Relations Officer, and Mrs. Faith Enekorogha; Assistant Public Relations Officer.

Members of the Central Working Committee for the 529th Awankere Festival, Okere Committee and Friends, members of Omologbara Cultural Society as well as Utieyione Cultural Societ, were among those present, during the ceremony.
