The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMET, says the frequent rainfall and occasional thunderstorms across the country, are expected to sustain malaria transmission, particularly across the North - Central and Southern states.
NiMET, warned that Northern states are also expected to face a higher risk of cholera outbreaks, making good hygiene, safe drinking water and proper sanitation essential.
The Agency, which raised the alert in an advisory published on its X handle Thursday August 6, noted that the month of August, would feature rainfall, ranging between 100.1 mm and 438.9 mm across the country.
Whilst forecasting the maximum temperatures to be between 24.6 'C and 33.2'C, NiMET, stressed the need for flood preparedness, disease prevention and weather safety awareness, urging motorists as well as airline operators, to expect reduced visibility and possible disruptions during thunderstorms.
