Ugbajo Itsekiri UK Demands Respect For Rule Of Law, As Part of Strategies To Rebuild Warri Kingdom

Ugbajo Itsekiri United Kingdom, has called for stronger collaboration, visionary leadership and respect for the rule of law, as part of strategies to rebuild Iwereland and improve the wellbeing of its people.

The President of Ugbajo Itsekiri UK, Mr. Mejebi Eyewuoma, reportedly made the call while speaking at the Organisation’s 13th Annual Gala and Charity Night 2026, where he also highlighted plans for its maiden Leadership Summit and free healthcare interventions for communities.

Eyewuoma, said the organisation’s theme, “Collaboration: A Synergistic Tool for Building Stronger Communities,” reflected its commitment to partnerships and collective responsibility in driving development both in Iwereland and the diaspora.

“We firmly believe that the development of our communities — both at home and in the diaspora — is a collective responsibility,” he said.

He said Ugbajo Itsekiri UK had successfully convened its inaugural Leadership Summit, bringing together progressive Oma-Iwere from different walks of life to brainstorm and develop strategies for community advancement.

The Leadership Summit, organised under the theme, “Rebuilding Iwereland Through Visionary Leadership and Collective Responsibility,” focuses on strategic resettlement and community renewal, sustainable economic growth and wealth creation, human capital development and youth empowerment, as well as security of lives, property and critical assets.

According to the organisation, the summit is targeted at progressives with interest and passion for the development of Iwereland.

The president also announced free healthcare programmes as part of activities marking the coronation anniversary of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri.

He said the intervention would provide free reading glasses, cataract surgical interventions, essential medications and general medical consultations to beneficiaries.

“Our objective is to promote the health and wellbeing of our people in alignment with the spirit of service and compassion,” Eyewuoma said.

He appealed to individuals, organisations and well-wishers to support the initiatives financially, stressing that contributions would help the organisation extend critical healthcare services to people in need.

The call for stronger institutions and respect for lawful processes also comes against the backdrop of a recent judgment by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, which ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Zenith Bank Plc to pay a combined ?4 million to Homadil Realty Limited over the continued restriction of its bank account.

Justice M. A. Hassan, in the judgment delivered on April 23, 2026, held that the EFCC exceeded its lawful powers by directing Zenith Bank to maintain a “Post No Debit” restriction on the company’s account without obtaining the necessary judicial authorisation.

The court ordered the EFCC to pay ?2 million after finding that it unlawfully continued the restriction beyond the period permitted by law, while Zenith Bank was ordered to pay another ?2 million for acting on the commission’s directive.

Justice Hassan further held that the continued restriction infringed Homadil Realty’s constitutional right to property, stressing that government agencies and law enforcement bodies must operate within the limits prescribed by law.

The case arose from an EFCC investigation connected to a property dispute involving plots in Guzape and Katampe, Abuja.

The court held that once the period permitted for an initial restriction had elapsed, the EFCC could not sustain the restriction through further administrative directives without obtaining an appropriate court order.

The judgment reinforced the principle of judicial oversight over investigative actions that affect financial and property rights.
