Okpobor Hosts Delegates of APC Iyede Ward 1

The Executive Director of Finance and Administration on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Oghenekome Okpobor, FIMC, FHR, on Wednesday, August 12, hosted the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Iyede Ward 1 at the Commission's Headquarters in Warri.

The visit, described as one of solidarity and appreciation, was to commend Chief Okpobor for his leadership and pivotal role in the restoration of Isoko North Constituency 2 in the Delta State House of Assembly.

Receiving the delegation, Chief Okpobor thanked the leaders for the visit and used the occasion to make a strong call for unity among the people of Iyede Kingdom. 

Urging them to place the collective interest of the kingdom above internal divisions, he stressed that sustainable development and meaningful political representation could only be achieved when the people remained united.

On the restoration of the constituency, the DESOPADEC Executive Director said he was pleased that the long-awaited development came to fruition during his time, but rejected attempts to attribute the achievement solely to him.

“I did it and pushed it alongside fellow leaders because of the kingdom and not for personal gains,” Chief Okpobor said. 

Acknowledging the contributions of other key stakeholders, he specifically recognized the role of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori whom he described as his boss and the ultimate authority on decisions regarding who would contest for the restored seat. 

“While I can recommend individuals in the interest of the APC and the Iyede Kingdom, the final decision on the party’s candidate remains beyond my authority,” he explained.

Chief Okpobor also acknowledged the contribution of the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, describing her role in the restoration process as vital. He further appreciated the APC Local Government Chairman, Prince Godwin Ogorugba and other leaders and stakeholders who contributed to the successful outcome.

“I cannot take the glory but I am glad that it came to pass in my time after so many years,” he added.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Odhibi Anthony, popularly known as Overall, expressed deep appreciation to Chief Okpobor for what he described as his positive impact on Iyede since assuming office. 

He said the community had become “brighter, better and more peaceful,” stressing that the visit was not motivated by material considerations but by a genuine desire to appreciate the DESOPADEC executive for his service and commitment to the people.

The delegation also specifically acknowledged Chief Okpobor’s role in the restoration of the previously lost Isoko North Constituency 2, describing the development as a major milestone for political representation and equity in the area. According to the leaders, his persistence and strategic engagement at both the local government and state levels contributed significantly to the successful restoration.

The meeting therefore served not merely as a courtesy visit but as a moment of political appreciation, reconciliation and renewed commitment to unity, with both sides emphasizing the need to place the development of Iyede and the wider Isoko North community above personal interests.

The visit was further marked by the presentation of a beautifully framed gift to Chief Okpobor by the leaders of APC Iyede Ward 1 as a symbol of their profound appreciation for his leadership and contributions to the growth and development of Iyede.
