Prof. Chizindu Alikor: Changing RSUTH Environment into a Model of Cleanliness - Nkemka Amadi

The Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Professor Chizindu A. Alikor has been commended for changing the narrative of the hospital through his unwavering commitment to cleanliness, hygiene and environmental transformation.

The above position was made by Nkemka Amadi , an educationist and resident of Rivers State on his LinkedIn social media platform wherein he noted that “there was a time when the hospital, then known as Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH), was widely associated with an untidy environment and persistent mosquito infestation. In those days, it was often said, albeit humorously, that patients who visited the hospital to treat malaria could return with another bout of malaria or leave with another ailment because of the unhygienic environment, adding that the narrative is now a thing of the past.”

According to him, “through deliberate leadership, sustained supervision and a clear determination to raise the standard of the institution, Prof. Alikor has championed a cleaner, healthier and more welcoming RSUTH. The significant improvement in environmental sanitation and mosquito control reflects his understanding that quality healthcare must be complemented by a clean and safe environment.”

“Today, RSUTH is increasingly becoming an example of how purposeful leadership can transform not only healthcare delivery but the very environment in which care is provided.

“Prof. Alikor’s commitment to this transformation is commendable and sets a standard worthy of emulation by other hospitals and healthcare institutions,” Nkemka declared.
