Okpobor calls for Isoko unity ahead of 2027 polls

The Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Oghenekome Reginald  Okpobor, has called for greater unity among the Isoko people ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging the Isoko National Youth Assembly, INYA, to lead the mobilization drive for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all APC candidates.

Chief Okpobor made the call on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when he received the INYA Executive Committee led by President, Comr. Eniwake Orogun, at the Commission’s Headquarters in a meeting focused on youth leadership, community development and political coordination.

Describing the engagement as strategic, he urged Isoko leaders and youths to demonstrate political maturity and organization, noting that the time had come to look beyond past disagreements and concentrate on the future of Isoko Nation.

“The paramount reason for this meeting is this: I want us to work for the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027. I want this body to be the foot soldiers,” Chief Okpobor stated, adding that the appeal was not a command but a call for collective action.

He stressed that supporting the Governor was necessary given his development strides in Isoko, citing the restoration of electricity to Utagba-Ogbe after 16 years as proof of commitment. According to him, Governor Oborevwori has made it clear that his project is to deliver for President Tinubu, and Isoko people should reciprocate by supporting who the Governor supports.

“Our Governor has done well. Just under 48 hours ago, electricity was restored to Utagba-Ogbe after 16 years, and we know that he is already working on the electrification of Isoko Nation. For the love our Governor has shown us in Isoko, we should support who he supports. Even a blind man can see what our Governor has done,” he noted.

Turning to INYA, Chief Okpobor charged the leadership to leave a lasting legacy before its tenure ends in a few months by partnering with DESOPADEC on initiatives that would make a mark in the political space. He also announced plans for an empowerment programme in the coming weeks, assuring that INYA would be fully integrated.

“In the coming weeks, I plan to undertake an empowerment programme, and I will definitely work with INYA. I want the body involved 100 percent. Let us all be on the same page,” he added.

Responding, Comr. Orogun reaffirmed INYA’s readiness to support Isoko leaders and align with the Governor’s direction, pledging that the youth body would follow wherever Chief Okpobor leads. The INYA Vice President, Comr. Moses Oge, also commended Chief Okpobor for his grassroots interventions and described Governor Oborevwori as the best governor Delta State has had in a long time.

The meeting ended with both sides agreeing on sustained communication, youth inclusion and strategic collaboration ahead of 2027.

Those present during the visit included the Vice President, Comr. Moses Oge; Secretary, Comr. Governor; Speaker, Comr. Oghale Christian; Deputy Speaker, Comr. Phillips Isodje; Woman Leader, Oboghor Uzezi Vivian and other INYA executives.
