The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has launched its 2026 bursary scheme website, providing an online platform for eligible indigent students from its mandate areas to apply for financial assistance.
Officially declaring the website open at the Commission’s Headquarters on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Executive Director, Social Services, DESOPADEC, Chief Favour Izoukumor reiterated the commitment of the DESOPADEC Board, under the leadership of its Chairman, Chief Barr. John Nani and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Chief Festus Ochonogor to supporting students and investing in human capital development across the Commission’s mandate areas.
He explained that the Chairman and Managing Director/CEO would have been present personally to perform the launch but were unavoidably absent due to other official engagements.
Chief Izoukumor described DESOPADEC as a foremost interventionist agency of government, noting that the Commission, through its human capital development initiatives, remains committed to meeting the yearnings and aspirations of young people and their parents, particularly at a time when many families are grappling with challenging economic realities.
He noted that DESOPADEC had, over the years, implemented various initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of its people and creating opportunities for young people to pursue their educational and career aspirations.
Chief Izoukumor also commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori who he described as a student-friendly, forthright and supportive leader, for his significant support toward the successful implementation of the 2026 bursary scheme.
He particularly acknowledged the Governor’s administration for providing the necessary budgetary support and approval required for the smooth execution of the programme.
Speaking further, Chief Izoukumor outlined the requirements for students seeking to benefit from the 2026 bursary scheme.
Eligible applicants must:
* Be indigenes of Delta State, particularly from communities within the oil-producing areas covered by DESOPADEC.
* Possess a valid student identity card.
* Be undergraduates of recognized universities in Nigeria or abroad.
* Be students at 200 level or above.
* Provide a valid letter of admission.
* Provide two recent passport photographs.
Students who meet the stipulated requirements are encouraged to carefully review the application guidelines and submit their applications through the designated bursary website.
Chief Izoukumor disclosed that the bursary application portal would remain open for three weeks, after which it would be closed.
He therefore urged all eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity and complete their applications within the stipulated period.
He emphasized the importance of the bursary scheme as part of DESOPADEC’s broader human capital development efforts, particularly in helping students overcome some of the financial barriers associated with tertiary education.
Earlier, members of the Executive Council of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission Students Association, an umbrella body representing students from the Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, Isoko, Ndokwa and Ika ethnic groups, led by the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Aineh N. Johnson had expressed appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, for the gesture toward supporting students across the State.
They also commended the Executive Director, Social Services, Chief Favour Izoukumor for driving the initiative and the DESOPADEC Board for continuing to provide educational support and keeping hope alive for students from its mandate areas.
The launch of the 2026 bursary website marks another step in DESOPADEC’s efforts to promote access to education and strengthen its human capital development programmes for young people across its mandate areas.
