Warri Ownership Controversy: Ebiareneyin Raises Alarm Over Alleged Threats to His Life

Assistant Public Relations Officer of Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths, Comrade Ebiareneyin Collins, has raised alarm over alleged threats to his life, calling on the Federal and Delta State governments to protect him from those purportedly threatening to kill him.

The Itsekiri youth leader and outspoken defender of Itsekiri interests, said the safety of his family was no longer guaranteed, due to his stance on the controversy surrounding ownership of the city of Warri and the recent delineation of Warri Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In a passionate appeal, he expressed concern over what he described as persistent threats and alleged attempts to track his movements, including during trips to Lagos and Abuja.

According to him, his commitment to advocating for the rights, dignity, and interests of the Itsekiri people, has made him a target of potential assassination.

“I am calling on the Nigeria Federal Government and Delta State Government to come to my aid over the threat to my life and that of my family. I am an advocate and youth leader from the Itsekiri extraction in warri kingdom, and I have always spoken in defence of my people. But for some time now, I have received threats to my life. I am being tracked, even during my trips to Lagos and Abuja.”

The youth leader called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Government to take the allegations seriously, with a view to provide the necessary protection for him and members of his family. 

He urged the relevant security agencies to investigate the alleged threats, identify those responsible, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Collins stressed that no citizen should be subjected to intimidation or fear, because of peacefully expressing views on land, identity, community rights, or public affairs.

Comrade Collins also appealed to notable Ijaw and Urhobo leaders to intervene by calling their youths to order and encouraging dialogue, restraint, and peaceful coexistence.

He maintained that disagreements over Warri township land should not become a reason for threats, harassment, or attacks against individuals or their families.

The Warri township land controversy has heightened concerns about relationships among communities in the region. Against this backdrop, Collins's appeal underscores the need for responsible leadership, mutual respect, and a peaceful approach to resolving contentious issues.

He called on the Delta State Government, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and security agencies to act promptly to prevent further tension and protect the lives and property of all residents.

Comrade Ebiareneyin Collins, noted : " Advocacy should not be met with intimidation, and every citizen deserves the right to speak, live, and travel without fear."
