Ochongor inaugurates Girl-Child Ambassadors, charges female youths on Education, Empowerment

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) and Convener of the Girl-Child Ambassadors, Chief Festus Ochonogor, has called on female youths in Delta State to embrace education, skills acquisition, mutual support and active participation in governance as pathways to leadership and empowerment.

Chief Ochonogor made the call on Friday, September 11, 2026, during the inauguration of the Girl-Child Ambassadors in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speaking at the event, Chief Ochonogor expressed appreciation to members of the group and disclosed that the Girl-Child Ambassadors was established about seven months ago as part of efforts to create greater opportunities for young women.

He explained that although he and his associates had been involved in politics and youth empowerment since 1999, with a major focus on male youths, there was a deliberate decision earlier this year to change the narrative by extending empowerment initiatives to the girl-child.

According to him, the initiative is targeted at encouraging and empowering young women between the ages of 18 and 40, preparing them to become responsible leaders and contributors to the development of their communities.

Chief Ochonogor said he was particularly encouraged by the progress recorded by the group within its relatively short period of existence, expressing optimism that its members would emerge as champions of tomorrow.

“We need to encourage them to go to school and empower those with skills. By the end of this year, we will do skill acquisition programmes,” he said.

He also commended the Delta State Government for its commitment to women's inclusion in governance, particularly the appointment of women as vice chairpersons in 23 of the state's 25 local government areas.

In her remarks, the member representing Ika North East Local Government Area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Medelin Okowa-Daramola, commended Chief Festus Ochonogor for convening and bringing together female youths in Ndokwa West.

She urged women to become more active and committed to issues affecting their communities, noting that greater participation would position them to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Hon Daramola also encouraged the women to embrace unity and mutual support, rather than allowing disagreements to undermine their collective progress.

The Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Council, Chief Godday Obi Nzete, commended the Girl-Child Ambassadors for their resilience and dedication, expressing the hope that they would remain active participants in the political process, particularly during elections.

He also appreciated their support for government programmes and pledged to empower members of the group before the end of the year.

The Chairman of the inauguration ceremony and member representing Ndokwa West LGA in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, described Ochonogor as a “builder of men,” whilst commending his efforts to identify, mobilise and empower young people.

Hon Emetulu encouraged members of the Girl-Child Ambassadors to demonstrate clear intentions, remain committed to the objectives of the forum and actively participate in its activities.

He subsequently declared the group formally inaugurated.

Earlier while responding on behalf of the Girl-Child Ambassadors in Ndokwa West, the Coordinator of the group, Ms Nkem Omede expressed profound appreciation to Chief Festus Ochonogor for establishing and convening the group.

She said Ochonogor's love for the girl-child and his belief in the mission of the forum had continued to fuel the members' passion, commitment and sense of purpose.

Ms Omede also expressed appreciation to the political leaders and other stakeholders for their support, assuring that the Girl-Child Ambassadors would remain committed to the ideals of the organisation.

She pledged the group's support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence that the party would achieve a “5/5” victory in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

The inauguration brought together female youths, political leaders, community stakeholders and supporters, underscoring the growing emphasis on women's participation, empowerment and leadership development in Delta State.
