President of Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative, VWKWI, Mrs. Vivian Eric Mene, has apologized to the Eghare-Aja of Ugborodo Federated Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Eghare Daniel Uwawah, members of Ugborodo Community Management Committee, UCMC and leaders of other Itsekiri host communities to Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, saying the planned protest against Chevron, is for the benefit of Itsekiri Nation.
In a syndicated podcast, showing members of Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative on a peaceful protest, Mrs. Mene, said she tried to reach the Ugborodo and other host community leaders to explain the aim of the planned protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited, but her efforts were to no avail.
Whilst claiming that Chevron was no longer taking Itsekiri Nation seriously, the Itsekiri rights advocate, stated that 18 staff were recently employed by Chevron Nigeria Limited and none was Itsekiri, even though the company had trained 32 qualified Itsekiris few years ago under the VTP.
“We are pained, our communities are on the losing end, we are suffering”, she lamented.
Fresh Angle International, can report that the protesting Itsekiri women, carried banners with inscriptions, such as; “Itsekiri comes first for top positions”, “promotion of current Itsekiri staff to higher positions”, “we need women empowerment and training” and “Chevron give Itsekiri people the right they deserve”.
