Planned Protest Against Chevron: Itsekiri youths back Vivian Mene's group

The leadership of Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths, UIY, have backed the planned protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL by  Mrs. Vivian Eric Mene led Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative, VWKWI.

UIY, condemned what it described as sundry cases of intimidation of Mrs. Vivian Eric Mene and her group, saying such act do not serve the interest of Ugborodo Federated Communities.

President of UIY, Comrade Okotie Joseph and Secretary - General of the body, Mr. Jakpah Oritsejolomisan Edward, in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International Wednesday night, said the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited and other " nefarious elements" should not test the resolve and strength of more than 7,000 Itsekiri female youths.

The statement, reads  :"The Leadership of the Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY) under the ebullient and stentorian Leadership of Co mr. Joseph Okotie (National President of UIY) is in full and unalloyed support of the planned protest against Chevron by Voice of Warri Kingdom Women initiative (VWKWI) under the leadership of Mrs. Vivian Eric Mene.

"The planned protest serves as an antidote to the many years of Chevron neglects, disservice and underdevelopment in Ugborodo federated Communities and Itsekiri Nation. Despite the numerous natural resources that Chevron has been tapping from Ugborodo federated Communities, the Communities lack basic social amenities, health care, employment and job slots. More recently, Chevron employed 18 persons without including any Itsekiri indigene in the employment. It is against the background of these incontrovertible facts; we unequivocally support the planned protest of voice of Warri Kingdom against Chevron. Our Support for the protest is unflinchingly anchored on the spirits and letters of the Nigeria Local Content Act, the Petroleum Industry Acts and other relevant statutory provisions.

"We condemn the sundry cases of intimidation of Mrs. Vivian Eric Mene and her VWKWI group, such sinister acts do not serve the interest of the Ugborodo federated Communities hence we will resist them within the ambit of the Law.

"The Management of Chevron and other nefarious Elements should not test the absolute resolve and strength of more than 7,000 Itsekiri female Youths as we are solidly in support of the WKWI peace protest and nothing can break us.

"The time to hold Chevron accountable for the sorry and pitiable state of Ugborodo federated Communities and Itsekiri Nation is now and the UIY in our righteous might will continue to back all Groups that are genuinely fighting for the interest of Warri Kingdom."
