Thirteen thousand, eight hundred and thirty five flood victims at the Oleh resettlement camp, including forty nursing mothers on Saturday October 27 received relief materials worth millions of naira from the I Care for Flood Victims Committee of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Delta Province 5, Bright Hope.
Our Correspondent who was at the resettlement camp situated at the St. Michael’s College, Oleh, reports that the items include towels, plastic cups, baby kits, bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of garri, bags of salt, bags of sachet water, beverages, soft drinks, cartons of noodles, toiletries, plastic buckets, cups, slippers, clothes, insecticides and mats.
An executive member of the I Care for Flood Victims Committee of RCCG, Mr. Godwin Abumime while thanking their sponsors, said “it is our intention to try and give succor to those who are affected in our little way. We cannot do it all alone but at least the little we can give that is what we are trying to give.”
Another member of the committee, Mr. Fred Aforkeoghene George explained that the current situation in the camp necessitated the setting up of the committee by the parish pastor, Bola Salami with a view to rendering assistance to those in need.
In the same vein, Pastor Olayinka Idowu opined that in other countries where flood occur, the people cannot gather in a camp because they usually die, but “in the case of our country we have survivors which shows God’s love for us”.
The Head of Personnel Management of Isoko South local government council, Mr. Lucky Edoh who received the relief materials on behalf of the flood victims, thanked members of RCCG and appealed to good spirited individuals and corporate bodies to come and lend a helping hand to those who have been traumatized as a result of the flood.
Chairman of the committee, Mr. George Orogun restated the plan of the church to set up vocational training centres where sewing, soap making and other skills would be taught at the resettlement camps and successful trainees would be given a start-up capital to commence their own business.
