6 days after the new Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South local government, Dr. Austin Uroye announced the dissolution of all revenue sub –committees as well as the harassment of vehicle owners for wrong parking by suspected agberos, some hooligans parading themselves as revenue agents of the local government are still collecting levies from taxi drivers along estate area by Total filling station as well as the estate roundabout towards the Okere market, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.
Our Correspondent who went round town reports that the hooligans normally harass taxi drivers on where to park their vehicles, failure of which attracts fine ranging from one thousand to five thousand naira.
When Fresh Angle sought to know why the illegal agents are still operating after the ban, he was almost assaulted by the hooligans who rained abusive words on him. One of the agberos who claimed to be the chairman even threatened Our Correspondent, asking to know who he is. “I am the chairman of the revenue sub-committee of the area in fact come down I want to know who you are”, he told our Correspondent who was inside one of the taxis.
Investigations also reveal that a television advert which did not emanate from authorities of Warri South local government council have been running on Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri on the activities of one of the controversial revenue agents.
