Warri South LACA canvasses routine HIV/AIDS test

The Warri South local government council chapter of Local Action Committee on Aids, LACA has called on residents of Warri to always go for routine HIV/AIDS test in order to know their status.

The call was made Tuesday January 15 at Iyara in Warri after a rally and sensitization on the need for HIV/AIDS prevention was held as part of activities to mark the 2012 World AIDS day.

The Warri South local government council Action Manager, Local Action Committee on Aids, LACA, Tosan Ohohe in a remark advised people of the area to ensure that they check their HIV status regularly.

Ohohe who is also the matron in charge of Pessu health Centre which covers Iyara, spoke of the need to patronize the health centre for health related issues.

In a lecture on HIV/AIDS, Matron in charge of Ugbuwangue health centre, Mrs. Okuguni Iguehi taught people of the area on the best way to use both male and female condoms, stressing that it is the best way to prevent HIV and other STDs.

A member of the Warri South local government council transition committee in charge of primary health care, Mr. Kingsley Willobi commended LACA for their effort at fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge and enjoined them to do more in the area of awareness campaign.

Our Correspondent who covered the programme, reports that apart from the rally, free HIV tests were carried out, while mosquito treated nets, packets of male and female condoms were distributed.
