The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has identified constant use of perfumes, licking of sweets, poor hygiene, red eyes, music, chronic dishonesty, prostitution and hostility as some of the signs associated with people who indulge in drug abuse.
This much was highlighted Friday December 29 in Warri by the Staff Officer, Drug Demand Reduction Unit of NDLEA Warri, Bisi Adeosun on behalf of the Warri Area Command of the agency during a brief lecture as part of activities to mark the 2017 edition of the annual ‘Okere-Gather’.
Adeosun who also mentioned loss of job, accident, stealing and fighting as some of the negative effects of drug abuse, stressed that smoking of Cannabis Sativa (marijuana) snuffing of cocaine, and other illicit drugs could lead to premature death.
In a remark, the Deputy Area Commander of NDLEA Warri, Usman Mansur Yakasai tasked parents to counsel their children and wards to shun drug abuse, insisting that the fight against drug abuse cannot be handled by the agency alone.
Speaking exclusively to Our Senior Correspondent, one of the lead organizers of ‘Okere-Gather’, Prince David Iwere, explained that the event is for all friends and well-wishers of Okere, irrespective of their origin, so long as they contribute to the development of the old Warri upland community.
According to him, ‘Okere-Gather’ which is in its 12th edition this year, has helped in fostering unity among people of Okere as well as their neighbours, even as he noted that the 2017 edition is the second in the series of endurance walk.

She solicited for sponsorship of the annual social fiesta with the potential of becoming a tourist destination, so as to attract development to Okere community.
Other members of the organizing committee such as Gbubemi Abigor, Oyemi Umuko, David Oki and Asare Segun, who spoke to Fresh Angle International disclosed that the three-day event will include novelty football match, old school day and old school dress competition.
