A fresh case of the outbreak of Lassa fever seem to have broken out in Lokoja, Kogi State, with the death of a baby.
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that a Medical Doctor who was said to have had contact with the deceased patient is currently sick.
It was further revealed that the baby died in the early hours of Friday, January 19 after been admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
As at Saturday morning, January 20 when newsmen visited FMC Lokoja, a medical doctor, simply referred to as Dr. Osebi, was wheeled into an ambulance, on its way to Iruwa Edo State.
The latest incidence which has thrown the hospital into confusion as parents who were admitted in same ward with the baby were seen making efforts to be discharged.
As at the time of filling this report, all medical workers on duty at the FMC Lokoja, have been placed on red alert to be more careful and be on surveillance of persons they come in contact with. Those suspected to have also had contact with the baby have been confined.
Similarly, an emergency meeting of Doctors was summoned at the office of the CMD for a possible appraisal on strategy and next line of action in curtailing a possible outbreak of Lassa fever in the State with the recent development.
