The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Tidi has ordered the immediate vacation/relocation of an illegal market opposite God’s Kingdom Society, GKS along Warri Sapele Road as well as other such unapproved markets in Warri to government established markets.

The Warri South Council Boss gave the order Saturday January 27, while supervising the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, the first by his administration.

Hon. Tidi who was apparently dissatisfied with the sanitary condition of Igbudu, Polokor and Okere Markets as well as the poor compliance level of traders in the markets during the sanitation period, warned that his administration will no longer accept a situation where traders dump refuse indiscriminately along business premises.

He disclosed that his administration will in a few days set up a special sanitation taskforce saddled with the responsibility of demolishing all illegal structures, ensuring that traders no longer display their wares under high tension electricity lines as well as on top of drainages.

Hon. Tidi asserted that as part of efforts to surmount the financial challenge of making Warri South a cleaner local government area, his administration has concluded arrangements for the commencement of the collection of tenement rates in residential areas in a transparent manner, so as to block revenue leakages and ultimately shore up the council’s internally generated revenue.

The Warri South Chairman who was flanked by the Warri South Council Head of Environment Department, Mr. Solomon Dafe Umukoro, the immediate past Warri South Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George and aides, supervised the evacuation of refuse at the front of Cavegina Primary School along Warri Sapele Road, McDermott Junction by Warri Sapele Road, Mciver Roundabout and Skinn Road, where he inspected a huge refuse dump.
