NMU Location: National Assembly erred-Omadino’s Counsel
Chief (Barr.) Robinson Ariyo

Warri based legal practitioner and counsel to Omadino Community in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief (Barr.) Robinson Ariyo says the National Assembly erred by passing the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU Act with the name Okerenkoko, instead of “its original name, Okerenghigho”,  insisting the issue of the real name of the location of the institution was long determined in Suit No SC/294/1970 between James Uluba and Ors against Chief Silo and Ors.

According to Chief Ariyo, the judgment delivered by Supreme Court of Nigeria was reported in Nigeria Law Report 1973, clearly “stating that the land where NMU is situated is Okerenghigho and not Okerenkoko”.

While noting that his firm has already instituted a case at the Federal High Court, Warri in Suit No FHC/WR/CS/15/2018 on the behest of Omadino Community, acclaimed owner of the land where the NMU is situated, Chief Ariyo disclosed that only the Fourth and Fifth defendants, the House of Representatives and Yakubu Dogara respectively, have filed responses to the suit as evident when the case came up for mention Tuesday March 27.

The Warri Chief who spoke on behalf of Omadino Community lead Counsel, Femi Falana (SAN) commended people of Omadino community and Itsekiri Nation in general for their support/optimism so far, even as he averred that hearing in the case will continue April 19, 2018.
