A gang of armed robbers on SundaySeptember 25 killed a security guard in Warri.

The unfortunate incident took place 3:am at 7 Ogomudia Street by Okere Market, close to Okere Urhobo CommunityDevelopment Committee office.

The chief security guard whose nameis Mr. Uruemu Akpofure is survived by a wife and 6 children.

An eyewitness said immediately Mr.Akpofure was shot by the unidentified gunmen, he was rushed to Syracus Hospitalby one Pastor Solo Atabe and a certain Paul. It was at the hospital he wasconfirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The eyewitness who identified himselfsimply as Mr. O.J told Fresh Angle that he overheard therobbers ordering the security chief to enter their car, but he allegedlyrefused and as a result of his refusal, he was shot twice on his ribs at aclose range.

The victim, Uruemu Akpofure who isalso known as Akpos was said to be on his security post when the uglyincident took place. A source said he has been in charge of security at thepopular Okere market area, by Estate for the past 6years. Other areas he wassecuring before his death are Cinema site, Eboh road and Okumagba layout.

Traders at Okere market and those atOkumagba Avenue road by Estate closed their shops Monday September 26 to showlast respect to the deceased, whom they described as a great vigilante.

According to one Mr. Ede Okuro, thelate Akpofure distinguished himself excellently in his duties, claiming that thelate security guard personally apprehended about 15 criminals with arms andhanded them over to the police.
