· Accuses Delta Speaker of collecting N18bfor IPP project without performing
Ijaw National leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark says the reported declaration of gubernatorial ambition by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe is a flagrant disobedience to President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive that none of his Ministers should engage in politics, thus causing embarrassment to Mr. President and other leaders of the PDP.
Chief Clark stated that the declaration has given“opponents and detractors ”opportunity “to insult President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the ijaws and even” himself.
The former federal Minister of Information who made the declaration in a press briefing said “the assertion by Mr. Godsday Orubebe that the governorship should be produced on ethnicity and for him to state that the Urhobos and the Itsekiris have produced Governors and that the Ijaws, the Isokos and the Ndokwas have not produced Governors is not correct”.
On the speculated 2015 gubernatorial ambition of Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Chief Clark, a former Senator averred, “this is a young man, a contractor who got a mega contract of twenty seven billion naira for an Independent Power Project, IPP, at Oghara or Oghareki. He has collected eighteen billion naira from the Delta State government, but nothing has happened on site”, save for the tarring of the road to the site by the state government which “ is overgrown with grass and trees”.An issue which he said his group of Delta State Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders Forum reported to the EFFC who in turn wrote a letter to say that the matter is under investigation.
He advised Orubebe and Ochei “to give peace a chance and not to use their position to intimidate and cause confusion” in Delta State.
