Authorities of Warri South local government council on Tuesday May 21 presented relief materials to victims of fire incident that occurred at Atse-Olu Community in Igbudu/Mcdermott Ward, Warri.
In a remark before the presentation, the Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South local government, Dr. Augustine Uroye said the council decided to provide the relief materials for the victims following an appeal by the member representing the ward in the Transition Committee, Mr. Femi Okorodiden and the resolve of his administration to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
Dr. Uroye who noted that the presentation is the first in the history of the council promised to look into the request for the completion of the health centre project started many years ago as well as the installation of a new electricity transformer in the area within available resources.
Chairman of Atse-Olu Community Elders Council, Iyara, Mr. J. O. Eburajolor commended authorities of Warri South local government council for the kind gesture and appealed to the council Chairman to assist the community in the installation of a new transformer already provided as well as complete the health centre it started many years ago.
A victim of the fire incident, Matemi Akwara who responded on behalf of other victims thanked the Warri South Chairman for keeping to his promise and appealed to other relevant government agencies to come to their aid.
Items presented by the Warri South Chairman flanked by his Vice, Mr. Dafe Ikpuri, Secretary to the local government, Mr. Eugene Ebisin, some transition committee members, the Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, Mr. James Kolo, Treasurer to the local government, Mr. Santos Ogobri include foams, cooking stoves and food items.
It would be recalled that fire recently razed down several houses and shops in Atse-Olu Community destroying household properties and wares worth millions of naira.
