Women tasked to take active role in family building

The need for women to take more active role in shaping their families as home makers took the front burner at a forum organized by women groups in Bomadi to brainstorm on ways of contributing to national development through the family.

The groups which comprise of market women, farmers, opinion leaders and women of thoughts, charged women to see themselves as home builders and take more active role in shaping their families, just as they added that women are the engine room in every family.

They stressed that women should dedicate more time in building their families and be more committed with the responsibility of bringing up their children in the right frame of mind. These they believe will enable them imbibe good moral values in order to become useful to their families and the society at large.

Convener of the meeting, Mrs. Odaere Agbedi maintained that a forum to discuss women and family life became necessary in view of the security challenges as well as social vices in the country. According to her “it is high time women in Bomadi local government area come together in a forum such as this to discuss and suggest the way forward in assisting our husbands in the task of instituting a stable family life”.

She said, “the family is a small unit of the society, peace and security in our society starts from the family unit. A peaceful society is a reflection of a peaceful family. That is why we have gathered here today, so that we can tell ourselves that we are indeed the stabilizing forces and the need to sit up and radiate love in our family”.

The group further stated that it is in realization of the role of the family as “key to societal stability” that succeeding governments at all levels put in place policies to enhance family life, stressing that “Better Life for Rural Women, Family Support Programme are some of such programmes to support women and their families in nation building”.

The group called on politicians in the state, particularly the lawmakers to come up with policies that will support and enhance the quality of life of women and their families.
