INDI demands resignation of Dokubo over anti Itsekiri posture

The Itsekiri National Development Initiative, INDI, has demanded for the immediate resignation of Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta / Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Quaker Dokubo, over perceived anti Itsekiri posture, particularly against ex-agitators of Itsekiri extraction.

The demand was contained in a communiqué issued Sunday May 12, by INDI after an emergency stakeholders' meeting held in Warri, Delta State.

The communiqué which was signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of INDI, Prince Aboyowa Okotie, accused Prof. Dokubo of being unfair to" Itsekiri ex-agitators and has displayed high handedness, incompetence, abuse of office and lack of trust". According to the group, Prof. Dokubo has not paid bush and in-training allowance to Itsekiri ex-agitators, after submission of their names several times to his office for the past one year.

INDI lamented," no single Itsekiri ex-agitator have been deployed for vocational training till date, making all Itsekiri ex-agitators to be stranded for the past three years. No single Itsekiri representative in the presidential amnesty office, in terms of employment and appointment, after several promises by his (Dokubo) predecessor. He has arrogantly ignored efforts to reach him, including couple of letters written to draw his attention to the apparent marginalizion".

While calling for the independence of the office and the establishment of a board with representatives from all stakeholders in the amnesty programme, to supervise and monitor the day-to-day activities of the amnesty office, the Itsekiri group solicited the intervention of the National Assembly, to ensure measures are put in place for" Itsekiri ethnic Nationality to be properly carried along in the office, in terms of employment and appointment in the running of amnesty office as major stakeholders in the Niger Delta, so as to guarantee sustainable peace and security in the region".
