Ex-agitators raise alarm over plot to end amnesty programme, vow to resist it
President Muhammadu Buhari

Ex – agitators in the Niger Delta, under the aegis of Joint Niger Delta Action Group, on Monday September 30, raised alarm over alleged, “sinister plan to abruptly end the Presidential Amnesty Programme, when most of the ex - agitators have not been fully demobilized and reintegrated into the society”, vowing to resist the move with the last drop of their blood.

The Joint Niger Delta Action Group, which comprises of Niger Delta Advocates for Good Governance & Environmental Justice, NDAGGEJ, Federated Niger Delta Communities of Nigeria and Itsekiri National Development Initiative, INDI, in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, tasked the Federal Government to reorganize the programme, to focus more on the core mandate and put up modalities for gradual exit of ex-agitators, “rather than dabble into areas that is not in the objective of the programme”.

The statement signed by Com. Dennis Mene; Coordinator and Com. Tari Jonathan; Secretary, noted that the three cardinal objectives of the Programme as proclaimed by former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua of Blessed memory are disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, rehabilitation and Strategic Implementation Work Plan, SIWP.

According to the ex- agitators, the Presidential Amnesty Programme have been an instrument of human capital development and peace, “as it has engaged the ex-agitators /youths in the region, which has led to the unhindered crude oil supply and the positive effect on the economy”.

They called on, “genuine vendors to be approved for deployment and training of ex-agitators of the Niger Delta for sustainable peace and development”.
