Ring leader of a suspected car theft syndicate, who claimed to be an Army Officer, Gideon Iliya, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command, Fresh Angle International has learnt.
The 39-year old Iliya, was apprehended along Sapele/Benin Road, by the Safer Highway Team 001A led by the O/C Safer Highway, SP Onubi Joseph.
A statement released this afternoon, Tuesday November 5, by the Delta State Police Command, revealed that Iliya was arrested while driving an Ash Coloured Toyota Corolla Car with Reg. No. JJJ 19 FN.

Iliya claimed to be an Army Officer with P/No.98NA/47/3845, a claim which the Police stated that had been discovered to be false.
According to the statement authored by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, on interrogation bordering on the ownership of the vehicle, Iliya claimed that the vehicle belonged to his friend attached to 3 Battalion Warri.
A call was purportedly, “put across to the phone number found in the vehicle document and it was discovered that the said vehicle was removed from where parked at No. 22 Ogbolokposo Effurun. During search on the vehicle, the following items were recovered:
1. One Army jingle hat
2. One Army T-Shirt
3. One bunch of key
4. One Nigerian Army ID card bearing Gideon Iliya”.
The suspect was reportedly arrested in-company of one of his members, even as two of them, alongside the exhibits, have been handed over to Anti-Cult Squad of the State Police Command for discreet investigation.
