Ten people with disabilities, were among 200 constituents of Warri South Constituency 2, that received five thousand naira each, on Monday December 16, during the inauguration of the empowerment programme of the member representing Warri South Constituency 2 in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru.

Fresh Angle International can report that the programme which attracted PDP leaders in Warri South and key grassroots political players, was held at the Governor’s Office Annexe, Warri, Delta State.

In his address, Hon. Opuoru stated: “Let me start by saying the journey to this destination wasn’t an easy one. But like I always say, “It is what it is”, implying, what is meant to be, will always become a reality.

I must also emphasis that dedication, unflinching loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party and the strong desire to serve my constituents, with a view to providing quality representation, that would attract visible development and mitigate poverty to the barest minimum for people of Warri South Constituency 2, played important roles in bringing me to where I am today.

“It is no coincidence that I was appointed Chairman, House Committee on Trade and Investments, in the State House of Assembly. A further attestation to this fact, is the inauguration of my Empowerment Scheme for 200 Persons in my Constituency today.

This 200 pilot constituents, who will get Five Thousand Naira (N5, 000. 00) monthly, totaling One Million Naira (N1, 000, 000. 00) per month and 12 Million Naira (N12, 000, 000. 00) per annum, were drawn from the Six Wards that make up my Constituency, Warri South Constituency 2.

Though the amount may not be huge in terms of what each individual gets monthly, but you will agree with me that it’s a reasonable personal sacrifice and commendable step by a first-term lawmaker, to boost micro investment of the beneficiaries. Charity they say, begins at home and I believe at the Committee level of the State House of Assembly, I will use my Office as Chairman, House Committee on Trade and Investments, to positively revive socio-economic activities across Delta State, particularly Warri, which is the commercial hub of the state.

“While I congratulate the beneficiaries and urge them to justify this novel opportunity in the history of Warri South Constituency 2, I want to use this occasion to formally announce appointments of 14 of my Aides.

The 14 Aides whose portfolio would be communicated to them later are:

·        Kenneth Omohwovo

·        Ufuoma Akporiaye

·        Ejiro Amromano

·        Atanoma Eric

·        Emma Akpotomi

·        Henry Mughweghwe

·        Federal Akumagba

·        Onome Egboro

·        Memuduaghan Lucky

·        Shola Godwin

·        Agbaje Ese

·        Omughelli Ogheneyerhowo

·        Sylvester Eburu and

·        Evwerhamre Venture

“I must also note that apart from the 14 Aides just announced, there are others commissioned to play strategic roles from the background, in my resolve to give people of Warri South Constituency 2, what they have been yearning for over the years”.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, while speaking on the initiative by Hon. Opuoru, stated: “We haven’t seen this kind of thing before. He deserves applause. No need for competition amongst political office holders, we should complement ourselves. I advise the beneficiaries to invest the money into productive ventures, even though it is small”.

President-General of Okere-Urhobo, Warri, Chief Emmanuel Okumagba, averred, “we have never had it so good, haven just come out from a trying and turbulent electioneering process, it God’s doing that Opuoru is our representative today. We have had legislators in the past from the constituency, you don’t have to be rich to assist people. He (Opuoru) is already clearing the way for his second tenure”

While the Chairman of PDP, Warri South, Mr. Johnson Agbeyegbe described the initiative of Hon. Opuoru, as one which would open more doors for Peoples Democratic Party in the area, Chief Israel Abido, commended the lawmaker and admonished the beneficiaries to invest the total amount per annum into micro investments, that would be productive.
