The Permanent Secretary in Delta State Ministry of Lands,Survey and Urban Development, Mrs. P.M.K. Ologitere has enjoined the 8 RegionalDevelopment Councils, RDCs, established by Chevron to engage the localgovernments more in their quest at developing Chevron host communities.
Mrs. Ologitere gave the advice December 1, 2011 at the ministryheadquarters in Asaba, Delta State when she played hostto participants of a 3 – day advanced advocacy skills clinic held at Asaba.
She enjoined the participants who were drawn from all 8 RDCsto ensure that members of the RDC executives reside in their communities, this accordingto her will fast track development in RDC communities.
Earlier in an address, the Programme Manager of ParticipatoryPartnerships for Community Development, PPCD, Mr. Emmanuel Azaino called forincreased government participation in the GMoU process. According to him, thefunding provided by Chevron is inadequate to bring about the level ofdevelopment needed in the RDC communities.
The PPCD programme manager noted that many community projectsexecuted by the RDCs are not operational “because of absence of relevantgovernment staff to run them”. Mr. Azaino called for increased communicationand collaboration between government and RDCs to ensure increase development ofChevron host communities.
Participants at the workshop which was organized by Pact Nigeria wentthrough intensive practical training on advanced advocacy skills.
