CONOIL platform faces shutdown over ‘inhuman’ treatment of workers

A CONOIL platform in Sangana, Bayelsa State known as Auntie Julie and Mr. P. platform faces imminent shutdown as some members of the host community have allegedly threatened to blow it up as a result of alleged inhuman treatment and unfair labour practices workers of Godvics Oil and Gas Field Services, operator of the platform subject their workers to, Fresh Angle International scoop has revealed.

Inside Sources hinted Your-Soar-Away International Tabloid that the latest casualty after couple of deaths suffered several months ago due to inhaling of dangerous gas fume is one Philip Ogedegbe, who recently collapsed while on duty at the platform.

The said Philip Ogedegbe alongside some of his colleagues has spent close to three months on- board the platform instead of the one month stipulated in their condition of service. Worst still, the Nigerian workers are made to attend to their failing health by themselves, sometimes consume food perceived harmful to their health and suffer other unfair labour practices, including non- payment of 13th month bonus.

While accusing a Delta Chief (name withheld) of being responsible for the perceived inhuman treatment, staffers of Godvics Oil Field Services currently suffer, a source alleged that CONOIL owes Aero Contractors for flight services rendered and efforts to resort to speed boats to carry workers off-board have failed as at the time of this report.

A staff of the indigenous firm who spoke to Our Senior Correspondent on condition of anonymity appealed to the Federal Government, the National Assembly, NNPC/Chevron Joint venture and other stakeholders to immediately intervene to save more workers from death.
