Olu of Warri rains curses on persons hindering growth, development of Koko

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli has rained curses on all Koko indigenes that are bent on hindering the rapid industrialization and growth of Koko Community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, Our Correspondent reports.

The Monarch vented out his anger on Saturday May 20 at the ancient town of Koko during his maiden royal visit to the Koko people and other neighbouring Itsekiri communities on that axis of his kingdom.

The royal father who expressed anger over unfounded rumours of his connivance with certain persons to install a new Koko Community Management Authority, KCMA told the crowd that he only swore-in those the community and various family quarter elders chose and sent to him for confirmation, insisting that anybody above 40years of age cannot be a youth any longer.

He said those whose tenure of office has expired after serving two terms must quit the stage for others to mount the saddle of leadership, adding that to continue to disobey constituted traditional authority, elders and leaders in the community, including himself amounts to sacrilege and unacceptable to him. The Olu therefore rained curses on those that take delight in contesting his authority over each community.

Earlier, Chairman of the KCMA, Engineer David Ireyeburutan called on all indigenes of Koko to join hands with him and his executive in their bid to take Koko to next level of infrastructural growth and development, saying he intends to run an open government, charging all those still fighting him to sheath their swords and come on board.

The Iweroko and Ameren (Ugogo Meje) family of Koko had in a statement read by Barr. Alatan cried out to the Olu of Warri over the alleged wicked and deliberate neglect of the ancient Seaport town that used to boast of a vibrant Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Bulk Oil Plant, BOP and United African Company, UAC, all now comatose and appealed to him to liaise with the Federal and State governments, NDDC, DESOPADEC, Chevron, SPDC and other well meaning stakeholders to come to their rescue.

He disclosed that Koko Town is spiced with moribund and abandoned projects, including the multi-million naira Koko shore protection project awarded to a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from the Eastern part of the country.

Meanwhile, The Warri Monarch has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to create registration centres in the various wards to ease voters’ access to partake in the on-going revalidation exercise in the country.

He made the call while sensitizing representatives of various Itsekiri communities at his palace in Warri, saying “it would encourage the electorates to get registered” and emphasized the importance of the exercise to them.

He tasked all those due for registration now and those who have not previously register to take the opportunity to do so to enable them vote and be voted for in the 2019 general elections.
