An Aide to Senator Dino Melaye, the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Comrade Gbenga Bright has allegedly escaped assassination, Our Kogi State Correspondent reports.

Comrade Bright who is also the Publicity Secretary of APC in Ijumu Local Government of Kogi State told journalists Tuesday October 3 that the incident happened Saturday September 30.

The APC Publicity Secretary said he attended a burial ceremony and called one Ahmed Yakson, the SA administration to Senator Dino Melaye to come and pick him from there, from where they moved to the venue of the burial ceremony in Okoro Gbede.

“I got to Kabba Friday September 29 in the night to attend a burial ceremony. I called Ahmed, the SA administration and protocol to Senator Dino Melaye who came to pick me, from there, we moved to the venue of the burial ceremony in Okoro Gbede Naomi Hotels, Okoro Gbede. On Saturday evening, myself and one of my brothers, Osameka who is also the APC ward Secretary for  Ayetoro Ward 1, left Ayetoro for Okoro Gbede to greet my friends and brothers who is son of the deceased. On getting there, I exchanged pleasantries and decided to move to Iyara that was around 6:50 pm. 30 minutes after, I said I was going to Kabba! We moved in Ahmed's car to Kabba from Naomi Hotels. For them, (sic) they thought I was still in the car and shot directly to where I was sitting. They riddled the car with bullets and the back side glass got shattered. I was their target, because Ahmed has been around for the past three months, where he newly resumed at our constituency office, Kabba. Nobody or no incidence of attack in the day or at night happened prior to my coming on Friday night (29 Sept, 2017).  I was monitored from Naomi Hotels, but for God, while the car was returning back, I wasn't there. Those two guys who fired at the Honda car popularly called Baby Boy at about some few minutes to 9 pm moved out of Okoro Gbede towards Ayetoro Gbede to carry out their satanic mission. To my surprise, I was called later by one of our leaders, who said Gbenga, thank God you're not in that car while Ahmed was returning. The issue is quite clear that we were monitored from Naomi Hotels, Okoro Gbede, where the deceased children lodged. The guys who fired the shots deliberately moved and positioned themselves at Araromi Gbede in other to cover their satanic mission by tactically not striking in Okoro Gbede. God will expose those who are behind it. I thank God for saving my life.”

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, ASP William Aya proved abortive as his mobile numbers were  not reachable as at the time of this report.
