Why we are organizing Warri Economic Summit -Tidi

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Tidi says the resolve by his administration in partnership with several organizations to organize the maiden Warri Economic Summit is hinged on the desire to revive maritime trade in Warri within the next six months and identify few key sectors where Warri can be number one or two within three years.

Hon. Tidi gave the explanation Wednesday May 9 at his office in Warri South Council Main Secretariat, Warri during an enlarged media briefing to create awareness for the forthcoming maiden Warri Economic Summit slated for Thursday and Friday May 17 and 18 respectively at Cedar Events Centre, Cedar House, Airport Road, Warri, Delta State.

While noting that his administration will intensify efforts to implement the road map expected to come out from the two -day summit, Hon. Tidi explained that the efforts were aimed at providing employment for the teeming and resourceful youths.

Hon. Tidi quipped that the essence was to de-emphasis on overreliance on certificates and give premium to skill acquisition, just as he averred that some of the resource persons at the summit will address the youths on opportunities that abounds in the oil and gas sector.

The Warri South Council Boss while stressing that the summit will open a window for advocacy towards the actualization of the dredging of Warri Port (Warri River & Escravos Bar Mouth ) revealed that distinguished Warri born professionals such as ex NIMASA DG,Temisan Omatseye,Francis Okumagba, Prof. Tosan Harriman and Mr. Sam Daibo will be among the keynote speakers.

Fresh Angle International can also report  that objectives of the summit include : identifying and articulating issues militating against the developmental aspirations of the Oil City of Warri, tailoring government policies to suit the needs of commerce and industry of Warri, identify growth and profit centres in the economy of Warri outside crude oil as well as to draw National and International attention to the economic and security challenges attendant on the non-dredging of the approaches to the Warri Seaport.

Meanwhile, Hon. Michael Tidi has inaugurated the Warri South Local Government Committee against ilicit drugs and adulterated liquor as well as the Warri South Local Government Committee on peaceful co-existence and Herdsmen/Farmers.

While Hon. Tidi will serve as the chairman of the committee on peaceful co-existence and Herdsmen /Farmers, Deacon Shola Mese heads the committee against illicit drugs and adulterated liquor.
