The President

Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR

Aso Villa

Abuja.

Your Excellency,

BROKEN RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UGBORODO COMMUNITY, WARRI SOUTH-WEST LGA AND CHEVRON NIGERIA LIMITED, CNL-A CALL FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

We, members of Concerned Indigenes of Ugborodo in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, serve as checks to Ugborodo Management Committee, Ugborodo Youth Association and other recognized bodies of the Oil and Gas-rich Ugborodo Community, with a view to ensuring that the rights and privileges of our people are duly respected as well as implemented to the letter.

Sir, whilst we understand the daunting security and labour issues your administration is confronted with at this period in the history of our dear Nation, particularly as we inch closer to the 2019 elections, we are constraint to draw your attention to the avoidable broken relationship that now exists between Ugborodo Community and Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL. This strained relationship is as a result of the new management team appointed by Chevron Nigeria Limited to administer affairs at Escravos Tank-Farm in Ugborodo vis-à-vis the peaceful disposition of Ugborodo indigenes.

It is instructive to note that the new management of Chevron Escravos Tank-Farm is alien to the workings and ethics of robust community-corporate relations, which Ugborodo Community (Major host to Chevron Nigeria Limited) enjoyed with Chevron until recently.

Your Excellency, it will amaze you to know that even the Ugborodo Management Committee duly constituted and Ugborodo Youth Association put in place by the community are not given due recognition by the new management of Chevron Operations, Escravos. Consequently, rights and privileges of Ugborodo indigenes are being denied, because the current management of Chevron Escravos Tank-Farm continue to spurn hitherto friendly overtures by our leaders, contractors and other indigenes. This has resulted in abject poverty of our people, a situation capable of causing fresh unrest in the Oil and Gas industry.

It may interest you to know that Chevron has not employed any Ugborodo indigene since the new Operations Team, Escravos Tank-Farm assumed leadership and contracts originally handled professionally by indigenous contractors, are being awarded to outsiders (non-indigenes) a clear breach of the Nigerian Content Act.

Sir, we will rather not be-labour you with unduly long text, because as responsible citizens, we are mindful of the enormous challenges confronting your administration. However, we will want to explicitly state our demands as follow:

*Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL should as a matter of urgency appoint a responsive operations team that is conversant with community-corporate relations and understands the yearnings of Ugborodo people to administer affairs at Escravos Tank-Farm, Warri South-West.

* The Ugborodo Management Committee, Ugborodo Youth Association and eminent Ugborodo leaders should as a matter of urgency discuss with the management of Chevron regarding the current injustice inflicted on our people, failure to act will trigger massive protests.

* We will not allow smooth take-off of the incoming Turn-Around-Maintenance of Escravos Gas to Liquid Project, EGTL by Chevron Nigeria Limited, unless the rights and privileges of Ugborodo indigenes are respected 100%.

* We want to strongly state that the entire Ugborodo Community is not enjoying the management of Chevron Escravos Tank-Farm under the leadership of Mr. Bobby Hulett and Cosmas Iwueze.

*Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, should as a matter of urgency revert contracts meant for our indigenous contractors to them in line with Nigerian Content Act and stop the current grandstanding cum slavery techniques against Ugborodo indigenous contractors, who have shown capacity as well as professionalism.

Your Excellency, we respectfully look forward to your immediate intervention, thanks in anticipation.

Signed:
