Wife of Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Mrs. Juliet Tidi has stressed the need for prompt immunization, saying it is the panacea to disease prevention.

The Warri South Chairperson made the assertion Wednesday November 14 at Warri South Council Main Secretariat, Warri, during the official flag-off of Maternal Neo Natal Tetanus Elimination Programme organized by agencies of Delta State Government and facilitated by Warri South Local Government Council.

While describing tetanus as a deadly bacterial disease which affects the central nervous system, causing painful muscular contractions that leads to the main causes of neonatal and maternal death in undeveloped as well as developed nations across the world, Mrs. Tidi charged females of between 15 to 49 years who are of child bearing age, to avail themselves of the immunization vaccine and ensure they complete the Tetanus Diphtheria (Td).

The Warri South Council Supervisor for Health, Mr. Elvis Okpako Eboh commended the wife of the Governor of Delta State, Dame Edith Okowa, Delta State Ministry of Health, Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency and the Warri South Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi for actualizing the healthcare campaign programmes of the state and local governments.

He admonished young women to make themselves available for the immunization during the five days exercise, which commences Thursday November 15 to Monday November 19 across the local government area.

Also speaking, the Warri South Primary Health Care Educator, Beatrice Onwo asserted that the vaccine for the tetanus immunization is free and noted that anybody found collecting money for the exercise should be reported to the relevant authorities.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that others who spoke during the Maternal Newborn Neonatal Tetanus immunization Elimination were HOD PHC Warri South Council, Dr. Maureen Sage and Local Immunization Officer, Warri South Council, Mrs. Roseline Wilkie.
