Chevron commissions over N400 million projects in Delta

The NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture has commissioned 10 projects worth over N400 million as part of the N5.56billion invested in Egbema Gbaramatu Communities’ Development Foundation, EGCDF since its inception.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that the over N400 Million worth of projects commissioned between Wednesday December 12 and Friday December 14 under the Global Memorandum of Understanding GMoU were: 10 Rooms’ Guest House at Ogbinbiri Community, 10 Rooms’ Guest House at Akekoromo Zion and a-500 metre Access Walkway at Opuama, all in Egbema, Warri North Local Government Area. While a-30 Rooms’ Hostel Block at Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Rigid Pavement and Drains Extension at Benikrukru, a Concrete Landing Jetty at Oporoza and A-Six Rooms’ Public Toilet facility at Kunukunuma all in Gbaramatu, Warri South-West Local Government Area as well as the redesigned EGCDF office block were also commissioned.

 Commissioning the projects on behalf of the management of Chevron Nigeria limited, The General   Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn, noted that the achievements recorded is another expression of the determination of Chevron to better the lives of people in their host communities.

 

He commended the leadership of EGCDF for its resolve in fulfilling the objectives of the GMoU which was initiated by CNL in 2015.

The General Manager PGPA who was represented by PGPA Superintendent Warri, Mr. Tony Emegere, expressed delight that the GMoU is meeting its objectives of making communities take up their own development as well as ensuring significant empowerment and capacity building opportunities to the people.

 

He stated further that the new improvements on the GMoU concept which is GMoU+, will help to monitor and evaluate the impact of the GMoU on various stakeholders’ communities, adding that it will focus on business development and economic empowerment programs, third party partnership/collaboration, delivery on sustainable Development Goals, SDGs as well as Human Rights and Operational Excellence.

 

The PGPA Boss commended “Delta State Government for creating enabling environment for its operations”, just as he thanked Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, NAPIMS as well as the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaraun 2, the Pere of Egbema Kingdom for their fatherly support in actualizing the projects.

The Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities’ Development Foundation, EGCDF, Amb. Jude Ukori averred that the projects commissioned will contribute to the development of communities under EGCDF and help in alleviating sufferings of the people in terms of basic infrastructural needs in areas of transportation, access roads, healthcare, shelter, water hygiene and sanitation (WASH) as well as create better teaching and learning environment in the riverine communities. 

 

The EGCDF Chairman added that they have trained 19 persons on International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA Agripreneur and have concluded arrangements to train 110 youths on vocational training in February 2019.

 

Amb. Ukori commended CNL for funding EGCDF, even as he appealed for more funds to carry out more development projects.

 

Our Senior Correspondent reports that others who spoke during the commissioning included representative of Delta State Government, Chief Julius Takeme, CNL, Offshore Superintendent, Mr. Peter Ugburo-Shanomi, Spokesman of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, Secretary-General EGCDF, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, Chairman of Opuama Community in Warri North Local Government Area,  Chief Johnbull Adaun and Mr. Osolo Billy.
