Tidi presents N4.9 billion budget estimate for 2019

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, Dr. Michael Ejueyitsi Tidi on Thursday April 25, presented a draft estimate of four billion, nine hundred and forty seven million, sixty eight thousand, eight hundred and twenty-eight naira and fifty-one kobo (N4,947,068,828.51) as budget proposal to the Warri South Council Legislative Arm for consideration and ratification.

Dr. Tidi while acknowledging that the 2018 budget could not be totally implemented due to paucity of funds, occasioned by dwindling resources accruing to the Local Government Council, noted that the total capital expenditure projection for 2019 is N1,789,041,125.94 out of the total estimate of N4,979,068,828.51.

A breakdown of sectoral allocations show that economic sector will gulp N521,154,581.25, administrative sector will take N420,531,169.69, while social, health and education sectors will consume N387,237,343.75, N384,721,831.25 and N73,396,200.00 respectively.

The Warri South Council Chief Executive who disclosed that ongoing upgrade of the primary healthcare centre at Ubeji in Warri to Cottage Hospital by Matrix Energy and Gas is over 90% completion and due for commissioning before the third quarter of this year, averred that of the 20 bore hole projects awarded by his administration across wards in the Local Government Area, 10 have been completed.

He disclosed that his administration was liaising with the Delta State Health Management Board in the areas of construction/rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres in Warri South Local Government Area, adding that renovation of the main edifice of the Modern Market at Ugbuwangue and construction of additional 120 open stalls awarded to Burid K Nigeria Limited at N46,482,405.00 is about 95% complete.

On efforts to diversify the council’s revenue, Dr. Tidi revealed that his administration was in partnership with Ugbo-Olaja Integrated Farms along Warri River to cultivate a farm settlement situated in over 6 hectares of land, with a view to also create job opportunities, even as plans are in top gear according to him, to expand the tax net of the council.
