Minimum Wage: Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom to pay only one month arrears

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has approved only one month arrears of the new minimum wage to be paid in subsequent months, after January, Fresh Angle International can report.

 

The Governor of the oil-rich State, who made the disclosure this morning, Wednesday January 22, via his twitter handle, noted: “In fulfilment of my earlier assurances to the workers on the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage, I have adopted and approved the payment of the New Minimum Wage in Akwa Ibom State with the Federal Government Negotiated Consequential adjustment percentages increase.”

                                                        

He added: “In effect, with the payment of the approved one month arrears, payment of the new Minimum Wage in Akwa Ibom State covers December 2019. I wish to appreciate our dear workers for their patience and understanding and urge them to reciprocate this gesture with dedication to duty to fast-track the actualization of the completion agenda.”

 

Recall that the new minimum wage became law April 18, 2019 and the Federal Government paid its workers full arrears with effect from April 18, 2019.
