President General of Ugbomro Community in Uvwie Local Government, Delta State, Mr. Raymond Kizito Olughor says no indigene of Ugbomro have been employed by the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE since its inception in 2007 despite being host to the Institution.
Mr. Olughor who described Ugbomro as the most peaceful community in Uvwie Kingdom during a protest held at the gate of FUPRE Tuesday January 7, accused the federal government of deceiving women and youths of the community with a promise of engaging them without anything tangible.
According to Mr. Olughor, the management of FUPRE is employing non indigenes into the Institution without considering Ugbomro indigenes despite the local content act.
A community leader from a neighboring community playing host to FUPRE, Mr. Atutu Okotie who was among the over three hundred protesters, wondered why employment opportunities are being given to non indigenes in the institution without recourse to its host communities.
A woman leader in the community, Aghogho Efe and Ugbomro Public Relations Officer, Comrade Monday Orhoma were among protesters that lamented the utter neglect of the community, stressing that the situation is so bad that even as oil producing community, Ugbomro lacks good internal roads, other basic infrastructures, healthcare facilities and good schools.
